Teacher

I am a licensed teacher. I am adding this certification for a subject/area in which I am not currently teaching.

My purpose for taking this course is to obtain an ADD-ON LICENSE.

What do I do now?

  1. Know the licensure area you are pursuing to obtain your Add-On license. (licensure areas).
  2. Decide if you want to have your transcripts evaluated by the Regional Alternative Licensing Center and/or by a partnering university.
  3. Obtain a Plan of Study (more info) from the Regional Alternative Licensing Center or from the partnering university that evaluated your transcripts.
  4. Now, you are ready to register for courses.
Option One: Take courses at a partnering community college
Check your Plan of Study to determine if there are courses you can take to satisfy competency requirements for an add-on license. You will pay $60 for a course and NCMTEC will pay for your textbooks. To register for a community college course, click here.

Option Two: Take consortium sponsored courses at a partnering university
NCMTEC has a list of approximately 400 courses, posted on our website, which may meet some of the requirements required on your Plan of Study. If you choose one of the consortium sponsored courses, the cost is $80 for an undergraduate course and $200 for a graduate course. You are responsible for the cost of the textbooks. To register for a consortium sponsored course from one of our partnering universities, click here.

Option Three: Take non-consortium sponsored courses at a university
Some of the courses on your Plan of Study may not be listed on our website. If you find it necessary to take a course other than the courses posted, you will need to use our Tuition Reimbursement service. To read our guidelines for Tuition Reimbursement, click here.
