Paraprofessional

I am a paraprofessional. I do have a four-year degree.

My purpose for taking courses is to obtain my INITIAL LICENSE in teacher education.

What do I do now?
  1. Choose the licensure area in which you would like to obtain your initial teacher education
    license. (licensure areas).
  2. Decide if you want to have your transcripts evaluated by the Regional Alternative Licensing Center and/or by a partnering university.
  3. Obtain a Plan of Study (more info) from the Regional Alternative Licensing Center or from the partnering university that evaluated your transcripts.
  4. Now, you are ready to register for courses.
Option One: Take courses at a partnering community college
Determine the basic college transfer courses you need based on your plan of study. You will pay $60 for a course and NCMTEC will pay for your textbooks. To register for a community college course, click here. (You may take classes at the community college and the university at the same time, if needed.)

Option Two: Take consortium sponsored courses at a partnering university
NCMTEC has a list of approximately 400 courses, posted on our website, which will meet the requirements of many paraprofessionals. If you choose one of the consortium sponsored courses, the cost is $80 for an undergraduate course and $200 for a graduate course. You are responsible for the cost of the textbooks. To register for a consortium sponsored course from one of our partnering universities, click here. If you are unable to find a course you need through our community college service or from the list of courses posted on our website you may use our Special Sponsored Courses for Paraprofessionals.

Option Three: Take non-consortium sponsored courses at a university
In some cases, a course on your Plan of Study will not be listed on our website. If you find it necessary to take a course other than the courses posted, you will need to use our Tuition Reimbursement service. To read our guidelines for Tuition Reimbursement, click here.
